android get

July 28, 2010 // Posted in Life (Tags: , , , , , ) |  No Comments

well, finally, i got myself a “new” phone. and by “new”, i mean it is new to me. i bought it used off of e-bay. it may not be an upgrade as far as hardware specs go (first-gen mytouch 3g), but the fact it runs android is good enough for me. it’s good enough to hold me over until i can afford something more high end.

after activating my phone yesterday, i rooted it and installed cyanogenmod. it is far more responsive than my old phone. it runs great, even after having a few apps running in the background.

of course, something good doesn’t come without a few quirks. first thing i noticed was the in-call volume being very low, even at the highest setting and installing an audio hack (which worked awesomely for other sounds). another problem i have is that it doesn’t seem to detect when i plug it into either of my computers. according to osmonitor, it only believes that it’s getting AC power. the message log shows…some things i don’t quite understand that may be relevant to the issue (see pastebin).

other than those two issues, i can say i’m very happy with this phone. it makes me wish i went with android before.

two months (and a few weeks) later…

i keep forgetting to post in this blog. honestly, not enough goes on in the span of a day, let alone a week, to warrant a blog post. so, i’ve been sticking to twitter. so here are the major events that occurred during this timeframe.

not long after my laptop died, i got the check for my tax return. i used that to buy a new case for my main pc. so, that’s been up and running as of early march. other than that, i mostly spent the money on my share of food and other necessities which i do not remember at this point.

last month, i got hired by walmart as a stockman. basically, what i do all day is pull carts from the parking lot back into the store. i also assist customers with carrying items out to their cars – whether it be regular groceries or large pieces of furniture. it’s part-time and minimum wage, but it’s income. and from the looks of it, i might be promoted to cashier in a few months or so. i’m going to try for a position in electronics, because, well, i know a lot about that kind of stuff.

as for my resolution to get out more often? yeah, i’m doing a good job so far. i’ve started going out every month to bowling meets with other furries in the area. there are also a few weekly events i try to attend.

things are going well so far. i may not be making as much money as i was before, considering the hours i work, but it’s enough to pay my share of rent and to buy some things that i need.

twhat was on my mind

February 21, 2010 // Posted in Life, Random (Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ) |  No Comments

not a typo. just now i was tweeting things that were on my mind. wasn’t expecting to do a whole monologue. i felt it would be appropriate to make a blog post for it, so….here.

first: holy shit, 12 days passed since my last post already? jesus christ, where is the time going? maybe it has to do with my fucked up sleep schedule, i don’t know. i need to fix that somehow if i even want hope of getting a job.

and now, the twitmonologue.

i’m listening to a spin doctors album “turn it upside down”. for some reason, it makes me remember things from over 10 years ago. grade school. i hated those years. especially during school. in fact, i’ve mainly blocked out anything to do with school (other than shit i’ve actually learned). i remember more of the things at home, than anything else. even then, it was kinda “meh”. not saying i hated it there, too (though at the time, i probably did), it wasn’t terribly eventful.

what i do remember is playing myst, since it was one of the only good games that ran on my computer. there were also some good DOS games and Windows games. though, i couldn’t use the floppy drive. it was broken. the computer before it got infected by a virus.

another thing i remember from that time period was a dream i had in 1999. this touches somewhat on my spiritual side, which i’m not going to get into with this post. it centered around a “pink eevee”. i was in class at school doing a word search puzzle, where that was one of the words. then, we went on a field trip to go see this “pink eevee”. turned out it was a pink fox. or that’s how i remember it now, anyway. either way, it wasn’t an eevee, and it was pink and foxlike. there was also a flying creature that was a half-evolution of biyomon and birdramon – like, it was halfway through the evolution. and there was fire. that’s about all the relevant part of the dream.

now, i don’t know why this band in particular brings back memories. perhaps it was one of the few things i listened to back then – not having many CDs at my disposal or anything. other than that, i listened to Radio 104 (modern rock) or Kiss 95.7 (pop). though, i strayed from rock for a while, and i regret having done so. though, i’ll admit, Kiss 95.7 played some catchy tunes, and i probably would never had known about some of the good techno bands that i do today.

anyway, that should be all. i pretty much repeated everything i said on twitter, elaborated on it some. i need to catch myself next time.

belated move post 2

February 8, 2010 // Posted in Life (Tags: , , , , ) |  1 Comment

and so, i have moved again. this time i am living in the city of elgin, illinois. i am so happy to see more life here than in bremen. i am also happy to be away from that douchenozzle i previously lived with. oh, and i did file a complaint about the landlord. i do not know the outcome, and i doubt i will, but, i don’t really care about those people anymore. bremen didn’t count. this move will. i still have yet to land me a job, but there are plenty of opportunities. and once i get a lock for the bike, i’ll be able to extend my search range even further. there’s a mall not too far from here, and several shopping centers. there’s likely one place that would be crazy enough to hire me.

on other news, my laptop’s power adapter finally crapped out, so i am stuck using my netbook. at least it performs well enough (now that i took the time to tweak everything to my liking), so i can do what i need to do. i’ve already established my main goals after i actually find work. first i’m going to pay off verizon so i can get my regular phone online again. then i’m going to get a new case and PSU for my main PC (or, at least a new power adapter for my old laptop).

no heathens

I’m getting kicked out of my apartment. For not being Christian.

Let us rewind to this morning. Well, early afternoon. Because I went to bed late and was forced out of bed by my landlord. I was on the phone with the real landlord, and he wanted to talk to me about Jesus, and the bible. He wanted to invite me to church. He offered to let me borrow his bike on the condition that I look for work daily, and that I spend 15 minutes per day reading the bible. I refused. Why? I do not want to be converted to Christianity. I was raised Catholic, went to a Catholic school, a Christian high school, then after that, I went my own way. And I am not turning back from that. The only reason I would ever step foot into a church is if it is with my own family. Or if it’s with my friends from high school. Other than that, no. I will not be dragged into Christianity again.

Early this evening, I was told by my landlord that if I don’t get a job this week, or if I don’t change my heart, I am going to be kicked out. Fine. Whatever. I already have a plan B. It was my plan A before I had an interview with Burger King on Thursday. I am still waiting to hear from them, but I am working fast on this plan. At this point, I don’t care if BK doesn’t hire me. I want out of this place.

Now, before you say anything like “you can sue him” or whatever…No, I can’t. There is no binding contract or agreement. They are not legally obliged to let anyone stay here. I’ve been working off my rent during the past couple months, but that doesn’t mean anything. So, no.

There’s only one thing I have to say to them, and it’s right at this youtube link below:

blah humbug

so, the year is almost over. what have i accomplished? well, i got fired from my job, and moved to another state which i actually enjoy more than california.

i still have yet to find another job. and right now, a job would make an excellent christmas present. i’m currently living off of the money i make off of the GPT sites you see to the right. it’s not much, but is enough to get me some food to eat. hopefully soon, i will find work.

i’m not going to worry about making new years resolutions right now. it’s pretty obvious what they are. i need to find work, and maybe actually start school. slacking on my projects is another issue i need to fix, and i’m already starting on that now.

belated move post

oh, right. i forgot to make a blog post about my move. it went well, the train ride was quite pleasant. it got off to a bit of a rocky start — i missed the check-in time, and the computers that printed out the tickets were down. but, i was able to get on and put my luggage in the cargo area. when we reached reno, i got my tickets, and found out that i could check in my baggage at chicago. my original plan to spend the whole two days playing FFIX didn’t happen — i spent the time enjoying the scenery and watching videos on my netbook. though, i did play some FFIX and FFVI.

fast-forward to making it to my new home — that, too got off to a rocky start. there were issues with the landlord getting paid on time, and my roommate keiro went to nebraska to stay with his girlfriend for a month. we finally paid the landlord, and everything seems fine now.

i am still unemployed, but i am doing some computer work for the landlord, and i am getting paid for the time taken to change out the electric outlets and winterizing the apartment. the electric outlets were one obstacle in getting my server back online, as well as the shortage of power cables. the power cable situation was helped yesterday. i went with the landlord to pick up a computer i found for him on craigslist, and the seller had spare power cables and a vga cable for my monitor. we also got a cat, which makes things interesting considering we have a dog as well.

on monday, i plan to go down the street to take some sort of test for a job with the us census. i’m not sure what this test entails, but i will find out soon enough. i’m also going to apply to a few places around here. my options are somewhat limited, but i’m sure i can find some place that will hire me.

i’m out of here!

At some point in November, I will be moving to Indiana. This decision has been made because I have been unable to find any work for the past three months, and I am almost out of money. I don’t know which day in November I’ll be making this move. It will probably be on the 15th. The plan is to go on some sort of road trip with a friend. He will drop me off at my destination and head to his destination. Yes, I’m going by car.

Right now, I am preparing for the move – packing up my stuff, and figuring out what I can take with me in order to reduce shipping costs. I’ll have to figure out how much my friend’s car can hold. Once that’s done, I’ll need to think of how to deal with my furniture. Obviously, I can’t take it with me. It’s more of a timing issue -when I should dismantle it and possibly sell it or donate it to Goodwill (which is kinda funny, considering that’s where I bought my desk).

You might be wondering why I chose Indiana. Not only do I have a place to stay there, but I also have a possible job opportunity. I also feel that it will give me a chance to turn my life in a new direction. Once I’m financially stable again, I plan on starting school, and doing some of the other things I said I was going to do at the beginning of this year.

Things might have turned to crap over the past couple of months, but it’s given me something to look forward to….a fresh start in a new place. Let’s hope I don’t fuck it up this time. :D

it continues…

still haven’t found a job. my plans to go out this week were pretty much scrapped because my roommate accidentally took one of my shoes with him to wisconson. as a result, we both have mismatched shoes until monday. he is letting me borrow his sandals, but those aren’t exactly kosher for job interviews. xD

i tried to apply to sears yesterday, but their online application system broke during the tax questionnaire part. i’m going to try it again today, and if it fails, i’m going to go there in person. i’ve also formed a list of places where i could submit applications – based on search results from careerbuilder and craigslist. thirteen places. and two from craigslist which i’ve e-mailed stating interest. i hope i get a job soon, because after november, i will not be able to pay any of my bills. (at least, rent and utilities).

on other news, i received payment from dollarclickorsignup. it wasn’t much ($1.05), but that was because i cashed out at the bare minimum. and i registered two days before cashout day. it showed me that these sites work. i have something to do on the side that will earn me a little bit of cash. and right now, i can use that little bit of cash.

also, i’ve found a theme that will most likely stick. i like this one.

yep. still not employed.

nope. target didn’t hire me. fuckers.

this past week, i got a call from primerica financial services, inviting me to an interview. apparently they saw my resume on caljobs, and liked the fact i was a good cash register monkey or something. after research, i found that they were very bad people. so i didn’t go to the interview.

i’m continuing to submit applications to places. i should actually keep track of this shit. let’s see…hot topic, see’s candies, campus shell, safeway, rite aid, um…i forget where else. it’ll come to me. it’s the holiday season, so i need to get my name out there as much as possible. i kinda need a job, considering, i’m not getting unemployment benefits. luckily i have enough in my reserves to survive the next couple of months. assuming nothing tragic pops up.

in the meantime, i’m doing a little something to make money on the side. my sister’s blog pointed me to another blog of hers, regarding “get-paid-to” (gpt, for short) sites. all one has to do is check their e-mails, or fill out surveys, and they get a little bit of money. it’s not much, definitely not enough to live on, but it is a little extra cash to spend on lunch. i’ll find this quite useful to be able to buy food without dipping into my bank account so much. you can see a list of GPT sites i use on the right.

as for job hunting? i’m going to fill out a few online apps over the weekend ( cvs, staples, savemart… ). on monday, i’m going to go out and submit offline applications (sweet factory, gamestop, fry’s…).
